Free Nursing Care

CARE HOMES

Free nursing care is divided into two bands, standard and high. An independent nurse from the Local Primary Care Trust will come to the home and carry out an assessment, or if you are in hospital this will be done there, and based on the information she retrieves from the nursing staff, care plans, medical notes, significant others and the person concerned, she will then decide which level of dependency to award.

She will also assess the need for continence aids: if you are eligible you will receive a fixed amount every week towards these costs, which will be credited against the actual cost.

Free nursing care and continence aids funding, is paid directly to the care home, not the individual.

If you are self funding these amounts will be shown on your bill as credits.

If you are state funded you will not see a reduction in your contribution, as the nursing element is part of the fees paid directly to the home by the Local Authority or Health Authority.
